While not a natural clay, polymer is a cousin from the modeling world. Recently, Designboom posted about New York artist Deborah Simon, saying she “walks the line between taxidermy and toy” with her series of “Flayed Bears.” The bears are modeled from polymer clay and their organ systems are shown externally with intricately stitched embroidery, evoking the fragility of the fearsome predators who are under threat by humanity.
