NAYARIT, Mexico — The W Punta de Mita resort in Mexico wants you to relax harder than you ever have in your life. With a beautiful view of the surf, the resort sets itself apart with a flashy, colorful aesthetic that draws its inspiration from surfer and local culture. The space was designed by Mister Important.
The highlight of the place (from our point of view, anyway) is the gorgeous mosaic running like a carpet through the center of the lobby. This colorful explosion harmonizes so well with the other decorations on display and sets the mood for a space that is both relaxing and fun beyond belief. My kneejerk reaction is to call it pixelated, but that would be a mistake here. Instead, I think the walkway takes on the look of the surf itsef.

the property references the historical, social and spiritual context of the hotel’s location. traditional patterns of the huichol people (indigenous people of nayarit), images of mexican celebration, vivid handcrafts with ancient roots and the amalgamation of european and indigenous cultures are brought to life throughout the hotel. the special feature of the hotel – the unique “camino huichol” walkway, or the huichol carpet – is a stunning representation of these huichol patterns. the huichol carpet, made up of intricate bright green and blue floor mosaic, is a walkway that stretches close to 460 feet.
