On March 28th, the Smithsonian American Art Museum hosted a panel discussion on decoration in contemporary craft. The panel was moderated by artist, scholar and author Bruce Metcalf. It was attended by Ulysses Dietz, chief curator and curator of decorative arts at the Newark Museum of Art; stained glass artist Judith Schaechter, ceramic artist Molly Hatch (who you can read more about in our archives) and, finally, our fearless leader Garth Clark. Each panelist speaks for seven minutes on decoration in craft, with Garth focusing on his current fascination with the Haas Brothers. Following the presentations, the panelists meet for a roundtable discussion. The video is embedded below.
