The video above showcases the work of Spanish-based ceramic company San Ginés Talavera on a project for the Oran Convention Center in Algeria. In 2010 the company was hired to create what was to be the largest hand-painted ceramic mural in the world.
The convention center is 11-storeys tall, with a width of 58.4 meters and a height of 34.4 meters. More than 51,000 handpainted ceramic tiles went into the project. The video shows the company’s process for such a monumental task. They divided the proposed image into a grid of 45 sections and then divided those sections further so that a team of people could paint the tiles in a studio. Amazingly, the entire project from start to finish took a little more than two months.
