The video that has to be seen to be believed. Andrew Richardson‘s Pixel Ware draws inspiration from Chinese ceramics so that porcelain plates in a digital environment become animated with growing plants or swimming fish. The projection tracks the movement of the plate. This achieves interesting effects such as fish appearing to slosh around in the water as the plate is moved. The installation was exhibited in 2011 at the Oriental Museum, Durham University.
Andrew Richardson, according to his biography, works as a senior lecturer in Design: Multimedia and Graphics at the University of Sunderland and his background combines both academic and practical work. His research activities focus upon the use of computation as a creative material, linking the process of creating using code with traditional decorative design work. He has exhibited and presented digital interactive artwork in exhibitions and festivals both nationally and internationally.
