This is the sort of video that bleary-eyed potters on a YouTube binge come across at three in the morning. Bjarne Nielsen, a potter and ceramic artist from Norway, teaches us how to make clay bananas on the potter’s wheel, using a lot of talent and liberal amounts of what we can only describe as “dad humor” to do it.
When he’s not making bananas Nielsen experiments with zinc-silicate and macrocyrstalline glazes. For the last decade of his 40 year career he has made zinc barium matt crystalline glazes. He works with Kari Selnes, who dyes and decorates fabric. Their studio is called Tornes Keramikk og Tekstilverksted. You can see more of their work on their web site or on their Facebook page. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Are you bananas over contemporary ceramic art? Let us know in the comments.
