Based in Santiago, Chile, gt2P is a multidisciplinary studio which seeks to use technology to offer new encounters with traditional building materials and techniques.
The video above illustrates the studio’s Less CPP N°2 design, which uses lumps of Chilean volcanic lava as dimmer switches to porcelain lamps and chandeliers. The designers state the lamps are shaped by a pottery printer. By heating lava against a porcelain biscuit, the studio found that the lava drained slowly over the peice of porcelain, then contracted in the cooling process. The chunks of volcanic rock are then used to control the brightness of the LED lights inside the lamps.
