Le FabShop, a 3D printing company from Saint-Malo, France, got into speculative science fiction with their most recent printing project. The company, which was launched last year, turned an electric car into a mobile 3D print lab. The project is demonstrated in the video below. The back of a Renault Zoe electric car has been equipped with one of the company’s printers, the MakerBot. As a man drives the car, the printer produces a small CAD-designed model of a house.
The company turns all Star Trek in their description of the video:
“We believe that in a near future, cars will be electric, self-driven and equipped for advanced field operations,” the company states. “Your plumber will be able to produce spare parts in his vehicle, some goods will be produced on demand in the delivery truck.”
The video shows the driver cruising around Paris and over the cobblestones of Versailles without damaging the model being printed behind him. “This is the future,” the company states. “It starts now!”
