In a hybrid of injection molding and 3D printing, German designer Thorsten Franck teamed up with industry firms Hypecask and ColorFabb to make one stool for each day of the week.
According to a description of the project on 3D Printing Industry, the team’s process used plastic with a high melting point which was melted, then extruded into a 3D Printer, which was digitally programmed to sculpt the stools.
Franck told the author of the piece: “The theme 7 Days 7 Stools wants to emphasize that a designer could create a different finished piece in under a day and, possibly, an entire collection during the length of a week long exhibit. Every item is 3D printed as a single wall print, with a spiral design, which is one of the reasons it is possible to achieve this final quality. As an Industrial designer I look to production processes and FDM (fused deposition modeling) works so much better when the extruded line never stops.”
Below is a gallery of stools created over the course of one week.
