Our post a few months ago about Seoul artist Minsoo Lee has been a popular one, so we’re back to show you a variation on one of his designs we came across recently.
People who read the earlier post will recognize his “+,—” form from 2013, objects whose rims are marked by a missing section in the shape of a plus or minus sign. These similar vessels are another iteration on that basic idea: Minsoo Lee is using the shape to draw us inward. More of the forms are nested inside each other, scaling the features on the rims down to such a minute scale as to give one chills. Razor thin bands of blue, purple and red circle the rim of each porcelain form. These colors are small enough to create the sense of one combined color, but detailed enough that the viewer can still place each individual line. Seeing them together makes one think of a tiny labyrinth, albeit a very simple one.
The forms pictured above are the odd men out on this series while they share similar ideas. These nested shapes, ringed with tiny bands of blue, play with the negative space created by removing a large section of the rim along right angles.
Minsoo Lee has been represented by Gallery LVS in Seoul.

Did I see his work in London last year at the Saatchi . Such accurate pieces , how are they made? Beautiful!
