This edition of “Spotted” takes a look at the fairs from a different angle to Justin Crowe’s on-target review of Basel Miami (next week his review of Design Miami will appear). The bulk of the images selected are of works where ceramics, and pottery in particular, is appropriated whether in the flesh or as a painted or photographic images. Most of these artists are not ceramists and so it provides a different lens, outside looking in treating the medium as icons. There are also a few 20th-century works of note that have been included. Lucio Fontana is represented by two ceramics from his Battaglia series, a large vase from Karsten Greve and a stunning plate from TBD. A highlight on Basel Miami was the scholarly exhibition by Cecila de Torres, Ltd of the decorative and applied arts from Taller Torres Garcia, a rarely seen pleasure.
