You may remember last December we covered a collection of clever world leaders turned ceramic sound systems by a company called Sound of Power. Designer Petro Wodkins is back with a more refined speaker parody, his native country’s own Vladimir Putin. This time the speakers are not ceramic, but cast in a composite material for increased sound quality. His St. Vladimir’s edition comes in a couple different forms. First, as a brilliant design object and, second, as a shocking performance installation in which Putin’s head is violently exploded in a variety of colors.
Wodkins told CFile, “To give you some context, I need to tell that I’ve got kinda personal issues with Mr. Putin. I believe hundreds of millions of people including most Russians share these issues. Russians have a complex attitude to the Father of nation. One could argue it’s a social Oedipus Complex. Regardless if you agree or not, he has been heavily affecting our personal lives for the last couple of years, and promptly affecting every Russian’s life for the previous 13 years.”
Wodkins promotes his products with tag lines like “Play the people who play the world,” “Harsh looking, but smooth sounding,” and “Vladimir Putin has never sounded this good.” You can purchase your own Putin speaker for $1,243 (€1,111) in the Sound of Power online shop here.
