The Terracotta Warriors make a convincing argument for the collective unconscious. They’ve been popping up everywhere lately, most recently in the film Furious 7, a franchise about fast cars, incredible stunts, and guys with buzzcuts scowling at each other.
The Warriors appear at a swanky wine and cocktail party, looking quite regal in the seconds before a sports car driven by the late Paul Walker smashes into them (spoiler alert. Whoops).
Besides being a cool shot of a sports car smashing into a priceless cultural artifact, we think there’s a reason the Warriors appeared in this film: they’re getting ready for their own big screen debut. The Chinese market is huge for American films and Furious 7 is stomping the competition over there. It’s nearing a $400 million run. We know that Avi Arad is working with Shanghai Films to do a super hero film involving the Warriors. Maybe the Warriors appeared in Furious to test the waters.
Yeah, it’s a shaky theory. What do you want from us? This isn’t the Holywood Reporter.
