La Ceramica: Issue 32
Milan: Officine Saffi, 2017
Translations: Italian and English
82 Pages
Issue 32, now available in cfile.library features Swedish ceramists Mia E. Göransson who exhibited at Officine Saffi this past spring. Göransson’s small harmonious sculpture objects rearrange the lines and laws of nature. She moves seamlessly between earthenware, porcelain and stoneware; sometimes all three will make appearances in the same piece! For the exhibition with Saffi, she crafted scenes, like still lifes, objects stacked on one another that share a color palette, a gravity, a habitat. Each scene is comparable to a terrarium. Her catalog will soon be available in cfile.library.
Another piece in the issue features Liling, a developing ceramic center in the center of China with an innovative and industrial past involving porcelain. The city, built bottom to top over a four year period, is a ceramic center.
“It is not a normal city, but a special place, where the relationship between architecture, urban space, ceramic materials, society and industrial tradition blend into a single concept, in a single location.”
With a great deal of architectural and landscape consideration, the city comprises three museums, a restaurant, gardens and other places to loiter, as well venues for artists to sell ceramic work. From afar, an onlooker might see the city as a conglomeration of giant ceramic bowls.
The issue also features artist Kristina Riska, Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, CEDIT, Leoncillo Leonardi, and more. Look out for issue 33 in cfile.campus!
