The Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track position in Ceramics at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2016. Pending budgetary approval, salary is dependent upon a candidate’s professional and academic experience and accomplishments. We seek an exceptional artist and educator who will join our team of vibrant, creative professionals that includes 30+ full-time faculty in art, design, and art history serving over 1000 art & design majors across nine separate disciplines. Screening of applications will begin October 15, 2015 and will continue until position is filled. Position Summary
We seek a candidate who is an outstanding artist and an enthusiastic educator, with a strong desire to enhance the program and to foster excellence in our students. The successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in research, program/curriculum planning and development, and must value working with diverse student populations and cultural perspectives in teaching and research.
Necessary Qualifications: MFA in ceramics by the time of appointment; ability to teach hand building and throwing techniques; professional work that reflects a high level of technical ability and an understanding of and interest in contemporary issues in the field of ceramics and/or the broader field of art; a research and/or exhibition record reflecting a commitment to professional development appropriate to a tenure track position.
Preferred Qualifications: evidence of quality teaching at the university level; ability to fire and maintain gas and electric kilns; knowledge of glaze technology appropriate for instructing undergraduate and graduate students; good writing and speaking skills; interest in and ability to utilize new and emerging digital technologies in the field.
