The above video comes to us from the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon, Canada. In 2012 they hosted Gasoline Alley and Other Sunday Dreams by sculptor Clint Neufeld.
Neufeld’s work deals with the apparent contradiction between the masculinity of car engines and the fragile beauty of ceramics. In the video, the artist describes how he disassembeled old car engines into their component parts to make casts. The resulting ceramic pieces were then reassembled, gearhead-like, into the finished sculptures.
