Sovrappensiero Design Studio was founded in 2007 in Milan by Lorenzo De Rosa and Ernesto Iadevaia, two product and furniture designers, according to their profile on Launch Box. They state that their process is “continuous experimentation.” Below are some of their product designs.
“Porto Sicuro” were a limited-edition set of ceramic buoys the studio created in 2012 with the Puzzo ceramic company. The studio states in a press release that the numbered buoys are emotional objects which suspend rational reality by making solid surfaces seem like liquid.
“Al buio” are romantic candle holders meant to, according to the designers, accompany moments of married life. The two candles are meant to be lit at the same time by two different people. The flames burn separately but come closer together as the candles burn down. Eventually they join together and the wax forms into a single candle.
“Artico,” a newer design, is a series of enameled ceramic containers themed after the Arctic. The lids are steel, decorated with ceramic icebergs or ships. They are made in white, gray and black.
“Back to Nature” is a miniature composting tray that slips over the top of a vase. After a while, it begins to fill with organic waste from the plant contained within. Once the container is full of fertilized soil, it can be transferred back into the vase or into another.
