In 2013 Amsterdam design team Scholten & Baijings were invited by the Georg Jensen firm to create a tea and cake set. The finished set combines porcelain with metalwork.
Titled, “Tea With Georg” (a nod to the firm’s founder), the team created a stainless steel teapot, a tea warmer, a porcelain cup and saucer, creamer container, a sugar bowl, a cake stand, a cake platter and individual porcelain dessert plates. According to the designers, the concept was based on a study of Japanese tea ceremonies, but interpreted for the West.
The focal points of the collection are the teapot, warmer and sieve. Rendered in stainless steel, the trio of objects is a callback to Jensen’s metalworking style. Silver runs through the porcelain teacups and saucers. The porcelain cake stand incorporates a stainless steel “foot.” In addition to tea, the designers included a double-walled stainless steel espresso cup with its own saucer.
More information about the set is available on the team’s web site linked below.
