As more ceramics surface from the organized chaos of last week’s 53rd Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan there is more of interest but little of importance. CFile is searching for iconic designs that may grace a survey of ceramic sins 50 years from now. However, Nathalie Hendrickx’s prickly pots have great charm, Acera introduces a study, handsome traveling mug and the new venture Incipit Lab comes up with two old ideas in a modern idiom: the piggy bank and a bowl with wire handles.
We’ve included descriptions of the works in the photographs which follow.

PrickleS is a new collection by Academy of Fine Arts, Leuven graduate Nathalie Hendrickx. The spiky, tactile vessels are reminiscent of sea anemones done in white with little points of color on the spikes and, in some of the vessels, a satisfying, deep glaze on the interior.

The One-o-One travel mug is created in ceramic and wood. It was brought to design week by the Acera company, which seeks to create a new Chinese brand identity. The company states that they express Taiwanese artistic tradition mixed with a contemporary feeling.

Louis is a set of piggy banks rethought by Philippe Tabet for Incipit Lab. The design of this old throwback is minimal, modern and sans-head but it is still immediately recognizable as a vessel for your pocket change. The banks come in five colors from black to bright orange.

Designed by Ilaria Innocenti, Muselet is a series of bowls which were inspired by the metal cage used to block champagne corks. The bowls are done in machine-turned ceramic with a copper-coated steel wire which envelops the bowl, creating a handle.
