The Gironde Extendible Table for Mediodesign uses architectural principles to create a sturdy piece of furniture and it includes a ceramic surface for class and protection from hot materials such as dinnerplates. It was shortlisted this year for an ArtFAD award.
Designed by Juan Pablo Quintero, the table is made of four triangular pieces that are hidden below the central board, which has the ceramic piece embedded inside. It was commissioned by an engineer who wanted the piece for his newly-renovated home in Barcelona.
Quintero, of Spain, describes himself as a “furniture architect.” Quintero’s educational background is in engineering and architecture, concepts he applies to his design work.
