Designer Martín Azúa teamed up with ceramic artist Marc Vidal to create a planter which reclaims the water you pour into it.
Manantial, according to Azúa, is “an invitation to discover and get to know natural processes. It proposes the reproduction of an ecosystem by means of soil, stones and plants able to give back to water its natural balance.”
The ceramic planter is housed within a wooden structure. The base of the planter is spouted, allowing water poured on the plant to collect in a dish underneath. Beyond its pleasing hourglass shape, it also seems like a good way to keep your planters from spilling dirty water all over your home and office. It’s more visually satisfying than the trays of most planters, which form a patina of soil you can see. The alternative is almost too natural.
Azúa, according to his biography, is interested in applying his design to objects that include natural processes in one’s daily life.
