When I feel my seat getting warm it’s either because I’ve cranked up my heated car seat or something has gone awfully awry. But neither scenario is the case with Japanese design studio Bouillon’s new ceramic ‘Warm Stool’ (2016). Designboom writes the stool provides the same comforting sensation of holding a warm cup of tea, but with your…ahem.
By pouring steaming liquid into the clay seat, which then can be secured with a wooden plug, the furniture piece helps users maintain their body temperature with a feeling similar to that of holding a warm tea cup. The pleasant temperature, rather than a scorching heat, pairs comfortably with the softness of the ceramic material.
The ‘Warm Stool’ was first unveiled at furniture design fair Salone del Mobile 2016, and a more finalized design was later shown at Ambiente 2017 design fair (Frankfurt, Germany, February 10 – February 14, 2017).
The stool, available in either red or black, features a wooden plug flush with the seat top, which is enveloped by the stool’s wooden frame from which the entire ceramic container can be removed. The stool is accompanied by a matching three-piece teapot and cup set.
Bouillon says it aims to create furniture that explores new possibilities of “Ceramic” for our modern lives. You can see the prototype of ‘Warm Stool’ here.
