Getting comfortable while flying on an airplane these days is a difficult task, but Italian design brand Alessi and Delta Airlines have teamed up to help make the trek a little sweeter. Delta rolled out its new in-flight ‘Alessi for Delta’ signature serviceware collection April 1 in its premium cabins.
The collection is stunning. Drawing from popular items in Alessi’s repertiore by some of its best-known designers, the bespoke collection features bone china dishes, crystal glasses and decanters, fine stainless steel cutlery, trays, baskets and various other accessories.
Brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec designed the ceramic dinnerware in a variety of subtly different shapes. The design duo told Dezeen the collaboration was a dream project.
“There is a few symbolic projects that designers romantically dream to do – tableware for an airline company is one of them.”
The brothers also designed the Ovale glassware.
Other designers involved in creating the collection include Patricia Urquiola, Kristiina Lassus, Miriam Mirri, Stefano Giovannoni and Humberto and Fernando Campana.
You may recognize Mirri’s playful style in her heart-shaped teaspoon, Giovannoni’s cutlery and iconic cut-out napkin holder or perhaps the Campana brothers’ ‘Blow Up’-style basket caught your eye. The signature collection is akin to a throwback to when air travel was magical and exciting. Who knew you could still dine in style at 30,000 feet?
The partnership brings together the stylish and contemporary designs that made Alessi a celebrated and iconic brand with Delta’s efforts to redefine the in-flight experience through thoughtful innovation. — Delta
