Hanna Ehlers, who is half-Finnish, often gives her designs Finnish names.
Apu means “help” in Finnish, an apt way to describe this 2008 series of multipurpose ceramic and wood designs produced in Germany by Zeitraum. Apu are a little taller than one foot each and are hybrids of tables, plates and vases. The ceramic portions of the three occasional tables, which resemble pots or trays, sit atop a wood base available in ash, oak or American walnut. The bases also come in a variety of finishes. The color can vary from chalk, to warm gray, to graphite black, to aqua blue or pink pastel.
