London-based designer Marie Dessuant created a series of candlesticks that illuminate and conceal. The design consists of a ceramic glazed stoneware lid that fits into a turned solid oak base that functions as a compartment for matches or anything else you’d like to stash away in the dark. The candlesticks come in small (53 mm in diameter), medium (83 mm) and large (143 mm).
Marie Dessuant was born in 1984 in Paris. In 2008, she graduated from the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg with a masters in product design. She then worked in Shanghai, collaborating with studios like Naço architecture and EXH. From October 2010 to October 2011 she was a resident at Fabrica, the Benetton Group Communication Research Centre, in Italy. Today she lives and works in London where she manages the design studio Another Country.
