Think Apple fanboys couldn’t get any more cult-like than they already are? Vancouver designer Tomislav Zvonarić is worshiping ahead of the curve with his concept design for the Apple iCup.
Zvonarić states that his design is based on an old idea: keeping your tea or coffee warm as you work. His design would achieve this via a USB cord that plugs into the cup’s saucer. Beyond sharing Apple’s feature for inter-connectivity among their various computers, phones and tablets, the iCup is similar to company’s products in other ways: Its glossy, modern design looks exactly like something the company would produce and you can’t play video games on the iCup, either.
I need to point out here that it’s a nice touch for Zvonarić to add Steve Jobs’ face in the foam on top, looking similar to an image of Jesus on a grilled cheese sandwich. Also, bravo to Zvonarić for either intentionally or unintentionally making the product name reference an ancient and immature playground joke.
Zvonarić, according to his biography, also works in shoe design, illustration, logo design and caricatures. This isn’t his only work with regard to major companies and that work is not always serious. He designed a bottle of Coca-Cola, an obvious piece of fat-shaming depicting a human torso with sagging breasts, buttocks and a gut. He also did a concept for the iTie, which would use a flexible screen to allow its wearer to pick patterns and colors and check Facebook. That’s probably a joke as well, but part of me worries that such a tacky idea would be a hit among San Francisco’s obnoxious Google Glass crowd. When that day comes I’m quitting civilization and moving into a bunker in the mountains.
