We’re excited to announce that our member Campus is live! Through the rest of the week we will publish a series of articles that explain this exciting new chapter in Cfile’s development. We will describe the unique tools our Campus offers to its members (which we have dubbed Cfilers, a term picked by our readers). With your support we can build a global community that will sculpt the future of contemporary ceramic art.
Campus membership comes in two classes: Individual and Institution (for art schools, museums, etc.) Individual Cfilers can join for as little as $7.50 a month, Institutions for as little as $299 annually. Below is an introduction to Podium, our members-only video library. Click here to sign up for a free 30 days of access!
To kick off our new Podium video library we have partnered with Clay Gulgong, Australia’s most anticipated biennial ceramics conference, to bring you some of the best lectures from the spring 2016 event. We are starting with presentations by Alexandra Engelfriet, Keith Brymer Jones and, Cfile’s own, Garth Clark + Mark Del Vecchio.
Alexandra Engelfriet
Engelfriet is a performance artist who manipulates copious volumes of wet clay and other materials with her body. We have covered her before on Cfile and are excited to offer this enlightening artist talk in C-Campus. In the lecture, Engelfriet talks about her path in art and the intimate relationship she has formed with her clay.
“What does [the clay] do to me if I do not try to master it, but on the contrary, surrender myself to it and let myself be overwhelmed by it?” – Alexandra Engelfriet

Keith Brymer Jones
In this revealing presentation, Keith Brymer Jones takes the audience through his rise to success beginning with the ad he placed when he was 17, seeking a production pottery job. He carries us through to the present day, where he is a CEO, the face of a wildly successful pottery company and the reality show host for BBC Two’s The Great Pottery Throw Down.
“Ive been doing ceramics for 32 years now and I feel that I’ve merely scratched the surface… And I absolutely love that.” – Keith Brymer Jones
Garth Clark + Mark Del Vecchio
In this lecture, Cfile editor-in-chief Garth Clark and Mark Del Vecchio talk about the current state of contemporary ceramics. Together, they touch on the best ceramic work and trends across the fields of art, design, architecture, and technology. They conclude with a Q&A and a story about how they began their lives in ceramics.
“At 21 I had no idea what I was doing and I was running a gallery on 57th street. But it just worked. It was the timing, it was the economics of the time, it was the interest of the time… It was all of those things” – Mark Del Vecchio
