Currently based at the University of Iowa, where he is working on his MFA, Kwok Pong “Bobby” Tso is an artist whose work shows a curiosity about form and the relationship between objects. He notes in his artist statement:
“My works enrich the nature and weight of materials. By producing a clear and concise space, I am able to create a connection in the relationship between one object to another. This connection is a metaphor to express the importance of this miscellaneous, compact relationship, using reduction, negation and clarification to achieve a simplified composition.”
Tso operates in a realm we at CFile like to call “fictional science.” He creates works which look like highly technical machines pulled from the future, and yet they are purely imagination. We’d caution Tso on his use of color, though. The colors we’ve seen risk making the works too facile, too Fisher-Price for comfort.
