From the street the Villa Rotunda home in the southern Netherlands looks like a typical home for the region. It’s once you jump behind its brick walls that you notice it’s actually an ultra-modern design which uses a transparent facade to give residents a view of the stunning garden and lawn outside. The Bedaux de Brouwer architects state that the home’s gable roof appeals to the “archetypal home, the abstract of village architecture.”
The firm also quotes architecture critic Hans Ibelings, who said of the 2010 project (roughly translated):
“With the design of the house, the two young architects (bring) the best of both worlds, combining modern and traditional. Thus, they are worthy of following in the footsteps of their predecessors in the office.”
The design won a Reynaers Audience Award in 2012. More photographs of the home follow.
