Dutch designer Tord Boontje graduated from the Eindhoven Design Academy in 1991 and the Royal College of Art, London in 1994 before creating his eponymous studio.
Today Boontje works out of London and in addition to working with companies such as Target, Phillips, and Hewlett Packard, Boontje also works with artists in countries such as Guatemala, Senegal and Columbia. He states that his studio leads and follows trends in products such as lighting, graphics, textiles, ceramics and furniture.
The photographs which follow illustrate two tile projects Boontje did for the Italian company Ceramica Bardelli. The first, Primavera Colore, is a compositional set of 12 tiles with floral decors. The set is available in brilliant or matte white. The company describes the project further:
“Everything is new under the sun, everything is light, everything is awakening, everything is life. It is the first day of spring, a spring that will bloom day after day in every corner of your home.”
The second set, Primavera Platinum, are 12 floral decor pieces in platinum on brilliant or matte white. The company states that Boontje was inspired by “the dappled light” of forests, ice and crystal:
“Delicate floral motifs climb up and along the walls as if they were hospitable trellises, chasing one another in a perfect balance, enhanced by the dazzling elegance of the precious metal.”
