A new building for the Deutsche Zentrum für Luft – und Raumfahrt, the German Aerospace Center, was a 2012 project between KSG Architekten and Feldschnieders + Kister. Located in Bremen, the building is a laboratory and research center that links to an existing structure by a bridge.
The architects state that the facade represents technological innovation. Ceramic tiles that have diamond-shaped fittings are meant to resemble a heat shield. The interior of the building contains highly specialized laboratory facilities and workshops in which compact satellites and other aerospace equipment can be assembled.
The designers told Arch Daily that on the outside the building looks like a solitary volume with a dense two storey cubature. The inside appears to open itself to visitors even though the building has high levels of security.
