As you can see from the videos below, this beautiful Gothic home in Girona, Spain was in a sad state before the Bosch Capdeferro architecture firm started working on it in 2006.
The home was purchased by the grandfather of firm partner Bet Capdeferro. Bet said that it was her grandfather’s wish to have his son, a master builder, renovate the home so that his grandchildren could live there. That wish was finally realized in 2010 when Bet’s firm, with collaboration from builder Josep Capdeferro (who we’re assuming is Bet’s father) and project leader Joan Anglada, finished work on the € 2 million project.
Much of the material you see in these pictures comes from the pre-renovated home. The architects reference that the fantastic mosaic tiles which adorn the facade of the building were originally covering the home’s floors. Hence, the building is a “collage” in that it finds new relationships among its component parts and becomes a dialogue between the building’s past and its present.
Based out of Girona, Bosch Capdeferro was founded in 2003 by Ramon Bosch and Bet Capdeferro. The pair are graduate architects from the Escola Tecnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona. Casa Collage won Girona’s Architectural Award 2010, an ASCER Interiorism Award in 2011 and was a nominee and finalist in several other awards between 2010 and 2013.
