This faceted vase with ornate dragon handles comes to us from the Yii design collection. The Panlong Vase, as it’s called, was designed by Chen-hsu Liu and craftsman Shi-ren Lu, who works with Koji ceramic, making the kind of ornamentation often seen in Taiwanese temples.
Yii states that the vases in the series are adorned with traditional dragon and tiger ceramic elements combined with a computer-designed geometric vase body.
Yii was created by the National Taiwan Craft Research Institute and the Taiwan Design Center. Yii seeks to blend traditional craft with contemporary design. “Focus is placed on skillful craftsmanship and manufacturing processes that are deeply rooted in a harmonious relation between man and nature, to finally propose a way of life that is both intelligent and moral,” Yii’s biography states.
