Adriano Design and La Castellamonte have won a 2013 ISH Design Plus award from the German Design Council for their Thermostack ceramic stoves.
Thermostack is based on modular, customizable components. A series of components can be combined by users to create different shapes, architecture and levels of power.
The ceramic stoves can be wood burning and pellet burning fireplaces that the company boasts (correctly) are contemporary interpretations of traditional design, handsome and sleek. The designers state that the stoves are optimized to get a high-yield from their fuel, making them ecologically-friendly.
The stoves were one of 34 products from about 200 entries selected by judges for the award last year. Adriano is an Italian design company founded in 1997 by brothers Davide and Gabriele Adriano, professors at the Turin Politecnico engineering university. They’ve worked on products ranging from tractors, to castors to football tables. Their work has appeared at the Triennale Design Museum and the Chicago Atheneaum.
