MAASTRICHT, Netherlands—Inspired by the captivating relationship between light and the color spectrum, Dutch tile manufacturer Mosa launched its latest ceramic tile collection ‘μ’ (mu) in April. Mosa writes, the result is an unprecedented yielding of a truly dynamic experience as the color of the tile appears to change depending on the time of day.
Playing with ceramic pigments and the way they interact with their environment and with each other, Mosa created a series that is able to subtly change its appearance, depending on its surroundings. The Mosa μ surface is designed to respond to space and the fourth dimension – time, taking its cues from a room’s interior features and the changing light during the course of the day.
The tile comes is four main shades: white, light grey, grey and brown and comes in a single size – 60 x 60 cm. Dezeen writes each shade is composed of millions of dyed ceramic and clay grains creating an optical blend.
Working with ceramic pigments and the way they blend, Mosa’s specialists created tiles that absorb certain colours and reflect others, playing with light waves and the different tones they produce.
Mosa writes that in addition to the tiles’ dynamic colorization, the pieces are also affected by distance and angle – including the shape and size of a room and ceramic area.
Creating rich, vibrant interiors with an ever-changing appearance, Mosa μ offers endless design possibilities and allows unprecedented freedom of expression. Playful, inspirational and full of surprises, Mosa μ will redefine your perception of space and time.
Mosa, which has 130 years experience in ceramics, received a coveted Red Dot Award for it’s design. The production of the μ series adheres to the Mosa’s commitment to sustainable design and manufacturing, including having large recycling potential, low energy consumption and good working conditions.
Mosa’s designers looked at nature, art and trends in architecture, as well as ancient Greek philosophers’ visions on the subject.
Most recently, tiles from Mosa’s Quartz collection were used by Italian studio JM Architecture, Dezeen writes, to cover the floors and walls of a three-bedroom villa in the northern Italian town of Jesolo.
About Mosa: Mosa offers unique and distinct tile concepts for walls, floors, facades and terraces. With its distinctive, high-quality and aesthetically pleasing tiles, Mosa contributes to the architectural designs of today and tomorrow. Innovation and design are its core values. In addition, Mosa is committed to upholding sustainable design and production practices based on Cradle-to-Cradle principles.
