Norwegian artist Marit Tingleff, known for her large-scale ceramic plates, not only has offered two of them to benefit our auction, but has also sent us this super fun video in celebration of our Global Ceramic Auction. We are just blown away by the support of our fans (read: YOU!).

Tingleff’s rich Dish No. 3 (left) and airy Dish No. 9 (right) — part of her ongoing The Blue Plate series — are both available for bid in our auction.
These plates form part of a series of several similar plates I have made in the past few years. In 2011 thirty-two of them were shown together as one work. Placed in a big plate-rack, two rows of dark blue and two rows of light blue, they resembled an outline of a landscape.
The Blue Plate is an ongoing project which comments on mass production:As large hand-modelled art pieces they constitute the opposites of any kind of rational production, but by repeating the same theme again and again, and trying to make the same piece over and over, the process takes after mass production.
– I must have staying power, – I must be better, quicker, – smarter…. But the material demands time. It takes hours to produce these sizes by hand.The workshop has limited space, and the body aches.These reminders are useful.
I think of each plate as unique pieces, but I also see them as fragments of a larger whole, – the dark ones might be part of a ridge, – the light ones pieces of sky.

Cfile: What keeps you coming back to Cfile.org?
I keep coming back to Cfile.org because I always find a lot of interesting things and it let me feel that I have contact with my ceramic family.
Cfile: Can you recall and speak to any one moment when Cfile.org blew your mind?
To recall ONE blowing my mind – moment, is very hard, I always find something interesting and very often feels enlighten, a lot of the articles I want to explore more later, but seldom get the time, before a new newsletter coming up!
I think my big ONE-blowing my mind moment will come very soon in the future, – so I will keep reading ; )
Cfile: Please describe and speak to the artwork you have donated to Cfile? Your catalyst, process…etc.
Six years ago I started to make these blue plates/dishes, – I think of them as a whole, even if they are spread around. – Together they form a bigger image, and are connected to my installation from 2011, «Blue landscape» (In the permanent collection of Nasjonalmuseet, Oslo) I enclose what I wrote about them some years ago. They are built by coils, in a sand-mould, then painted with slips, and after bisk fire, glazed with an old recipe pottery transparent glaze.
