Art | Turi Heisselberg Pedersen’s Faceted Forms + Crystalline Ceramics

COPENHAGEN — Copenhagen-based artist Turi Heisselberg Pedersen’s new ceramic series Faceted Shapes features works which draw upon organic crystal and igneous rock formations. Despite their geometric forms, each piece has an irregularity imbuing the organic occurrences from which their shape is derived, Pedersen states in her artist statement.

“In the interplay between culture and nature, my recent work is inspired by geological structures and crystal formations, but also by architecture, the edged rendering of a computer drawing or folded paper shapes.”

Each piece in collection is hand-modeled stoneware glazed with slip-glaze, which affords the piece its stone-like surface, rich with texture.

“Some of my works have expressive surfaces, with relief or fluted structures but most of them are simply just trying to express the inherent character and textual freshness of the clay.”
