Dutch designer Marcel Wanders has designed a serviceware collection for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Wanders’ collection includes porcelain plate ware, glassware, cutlery, linen and a tray. The serviceware is featured on the airline’s World Business Class flights.
Serviceware often reflects the culture a restaurant strives to cultivate, and that’s precisely what KLM aims to do with this collaborative project, Dezeen writes.
The entire presentation of meals and drinks has been completely renewed to reflect the journey of inspiration KLM strives to offer its passengers.
KLM tells Dezeen, its passengers particularly like the Dutch quality of the service with its Delft- and lace-like details.
The products are also lighter weight than usual serviceware, lightening up the load on board the aircrafts. That means less fuel being burned resulting in lower CO2 emissions.
Wanders tells Dezeen the collaboration had been a long-time wish of his.
“As a frequent flyer with KLM, I found it quite easy to get a feel for the assignment and to bring about a metamorphosis of the existing service elements.
Owing to the ergonomic, technical, economic and logistic guidelines for this design, the new service matches the quality standards of top restaurants.”
