We’re still trying to wrap our heads around the “how” of this one. Finnish company Magisso makes ceramics that can stay cool from anywhere between two-to-four hours after they’re run under the faucet for a few moments.

The matte black color and slightly-rough finish allow the user to write on the wares with a piece of chalk. It’s a design choice seemingly made only for writing lovey messages to your significant so-and-so on the surface of the self-cooling champagne bucket.
The company states of the set:
The MUST HAVE for all the things you need to serve cool and fresh during fine dining or everyday meals. And with the Naturally Cooling Ceramics you don’t need a freezer or a fridge to keep foods deliciously cool. It’s so simple. Just soak the Naturally Cooling Ceramics in water for a minute or two before use. It will then keep the content cool throughout breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can also create your very own design or write a message on the side of the Ceramics with chalk. Cool and clever. Naturally.
The set was designed by Simon Stevens, who founded his studio in 2009. Stevens creates ceramic table and homeware products and lectures about design throughout the UK. He states that he is “inspired by our interaction with everyday objects” and that his work takes familiar objects and makes them pleasurable to use and visually enjoyable.

I think this may be an example of new marketing on old technology. Porous ceramic (i.e. earthenware) absorbs water. Evaporating water cools surfaces. I’m not sure those images show the pots frosting over, rather just the water being absorbed into the ceramic. I could be wrong – just guessing. In any case, it’s very good marketing.
