First, our apologies for the image above (courtesy of the Laufen Factory) if it offends. But we thought it a handsome example of mass-produced ceramic design, in the most neutral and everyday sense. Besides, it has art frisson, suggestive of the world’s most famous ceramic object, Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain. But never fear; it will not be on the winners list.
In September 2014, the Keramik Kunsthall will present the finalists for the CFile Design Awards. The online exhibition will run for two months. During that time, viewers can visit and vote on their favorite designs. Two awards will be given in each category; one is Editor’s Choice and the other Viewer’s Choice. How do you enter? It’s very easy. If your design is featured in The Weekly, our online news magazine, you are automatically in the running. The deadline is June 1, 2014, our editors and an advisory board will choose the finalists from the previous year’s posts.
Any design produced in the 21st century will be considered for our first round of awards; but after 2014, only designs completed two years before the awards deadline will be considered. The categories are as follows: Best Ceramic Design (not tableware), Best Ceramic Design Tableware, Best Ceramic Design in Social Service, Best Design Handmade, Best Design of a Book on Ceramics, Best Installation Design of a Ceramics Exhibition, Best Tile Design, Best Ceramics in Architecture, and finally, our Grand Prix, The Innovation Award for the most advanced work in ceramic design combining both aesthetics and technology.
