This week we’ve traveled through Colby Parsons’ experiments in coupling traditional sculpture with new media. The Texas artist takes static, intentionally simple sculptures and pairs them with equally simple video projections. The result creates drama that would be absent from the component parts on their own. In our earlier posts, we’ve seen examples of eternal forward motion and of shifting, almost nervous oscillating between two static points. By drawing our attention to the importance of our visual sense in interpreting meaning, Parsons is able to drastically change his tone with the slightest of tweaks.
In Multifacet, Parsons complicates his series ever so slightly by having the throughlines travel against one another across the sculpture on different degrees of verticality.
