Conceived as an “Object-Graphic” studio, TODOMUTA draws a link between what is age-old and what is contemporary, between local and universal cultures, between design and art. Their main interest lies in the analysis of themes that relate to archaeology, nature and anthropology, defining their own iconography and universe. The members are professionals from the fields of sculpture, graphic design, illustration and photography.
The designers at TODOMUTA Studio find ways to explore their own interests and satisfy the clients that they work with. Often, they work in collaboration with creators from other disciplines, like fashion, architecture or industrial design. They collaborated with fashion designer Leandro Cano, designing and creating the ceramic appliqués for his collection, ÁNIMA, which was shown at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin 2013. According to TODOMUTA Studio, the forms were inspired by, “bone structures interpreted as floral elements, imbued with a heavy charge of romanticism. The pieces were produced entirely by hand, molding each element from the prototypes created in the studio.”
Their Rara Avis (Rare Birds), a collection of six ceramic mugs/containers, have a hint of birds about them and a heavy debt to ethnographic art. The pieces were produced with grey clay and traditional methods; surface irregularities were embraced as enhancements to the collection. With this project, TODOMUTA Studio continues to delve into the fine line that divides art and design.
