Brothers-in-architecture Alessandro and Francesco Medini created the electrifying porcelain tile “FiLo” for Refin Ceramiche. The brothers acted as jurors for the Create Your Tile competition for Design Tales Studio and FiLo was a noncompeting entry.
The set is comprised of four tiles measuring 30 x 30 inches. They are mixed to create patterns with rapid, random movements, according to Refin. Seeing these cover a whole space creates an optic effect which makes it nigh-impossible to tear your eyes away from the floor. The tiles come with different colored backgrounds and thinlines. The brothers state of the project:
“Our decorative patterns originate from a range of references: nature, history, symbols, geometry. In the case of FiLo for DesignTaleStudio, the strained weave of the lines comes from the three-dimensional movement of a grid; waves are created in its geometries, changing their measurements. The hypothesis is to obtain a vaguely electrical optical result, drawing attention to the floor as we walk on it.”
