Video | In the Studio with “Mud Architect” William Daley

Ceramic artist William Daley was born in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York in March 1925. Following World War II, Daley attended the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston under the G.I. Bill. He received his BA in 1950. He completed his graduate degree at Columbia University Teachers College in 1952. He went on to teach ceramics at state colleges in Iowa and in New York, but he spent the majority of his career in the Industrial Design Department and later the Crafts Department at the Philadelphia College of Art

The above video gets Daley into the studio so he can talk about his background and the artistic process of creating a pot. “Artists practice so they can trust themselves, their ideas, their mechanics and their process to make something that is authentic, that they believe in deeply,” Daley tells the interviewer.
