Thirty-six year-old Dutch designer Kiki van Eijk graduated in 2000 from the Design Academy in Eindhoven. She works on her own collection of designs, exhibiting in museums and fairs worldwide while also working with firms such as Studio Edelkoort and Secondome. The designer brings her own personal and emotional character to her work, drawing inspiration from everyday objects which she catalogs in her head for later use.
The following images come from her “Cut and Paste” series for Secondome and a number of works titled “Soft.” The “Cut and Paste” set is described as, “An imaginary world in which everything is mixed, combined and questioned…” Many of the objects in the series appear to be hybridizations of common objects found around the home. Her “Soft” ceramics have a doughy or padded quality, and take such forms as clocks and lamps. Photographs of the collections follow.
