In the video above, curator Emily Zilber of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston discusses New Blue and White, a 2013 exhibition which explored the classic ceramic motif.
Although Zilber said the classic blue and white design is one of the most recognized types of ceramic produced across the world, the exhibition was modern, with works that were all produced within the last 15 years. These contemporary statements about ceramics are made on traditional porcelain plates and vessels, but the artists also highlight its possibilities in fashion, abstract and freeform works. We’ve selected some highlights of the video in the images which follow.

While in China in 2005, I met a Scottish artist who was a guest artist at the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen. She was working in blue and white. I’ve been following her work since then see that she is making quite a name for herself in GB. Her name is Wendy Kershaw, and there are many links to her on Google.
